About This Class

Lesson 10 is a cumulative, meditative celebration of the full Yang-style 8-move Tai Chi form, practiced three times through with progressively deeper layers of awareness. The session opens with a full-body warm-up shake and weight-shifting song, then moves into an innovative "armless" form practice that strips movement down to its core — literally — to reveal how the Dantian (one inch below and behind the navel) drives all motion from the ground up through the fingertips. Each run-through of the form adds a new focal point: releasing shoulder and arm tension, cultivating the six harmonies (hips–shoulders, knees–elbows, ankles–wrists), mastering weight transfer between empty and full legs, and finally integrating eye intention so that Qi follows the gaze. The class closes with a standing Zhan Zhuang-style meditation sequence — the "grand ultimate stance" — guiding students through belly breathing, subtle rising and sinking of crown, elbow tips, and kneecaps, and then "holding the Tai Chi ball" (Laogong-point awareness) to sense and expand Qi between the palms. Throughout, the instructor emphasises self-compassion over perfection, framing the practice as a moving meditation that calms the nervous system, cultivates health and longevity, and connects the practitioner to their own Qi. Props are not required; the tone is warm, philosophical, and deeply encouraging.
