About This Class

In this short, approachable class, instructor Amanda Huggins guides young practitioners through the foundational 12-shape sequence of Surya Namaskar A (Sun Salutation A). Starting in Tadasana with grounding breathwork, she walks kids step-by-step through the full sequence — including Forward Fold, Halfway Lift, Plank, modified Cobra (with a "no chicken arms" reminder), and Downward Facing Dog — offering kid-friendly modifications such as bent-knee plank and modified down dog for those still building arm strength. The class runs through the sequence three times: once slowly and broken down shape-by-shape, and twice with one breath per shape to build rhythm and breath-movement coordination. The tone is warm, encouraging, and playful throughout, with imaginative cues (growing taller on the inhale, rooting into the earth on the exhale) that make abstract yoga concepts accessible to children. The class closes with a grounding moment in Tadasana and a simple mindful dedication before Namaste.
