About This Class
This 79-minute yin class with Dan Ward is a deeply contemplative floor-based journey designed to release the hips, psoas, hamstrings, low back, and inner thighs through slow, intentional holds and subtle movement. The class opens supine with gentle windshield-wiper knee rolls and psoas massage before moving into progressively deeper hip openers: happy baby (Ananda Balasana), baby cradle, half lotus prep, and Supta Gomukhasana. A seated block-holding sequence wakes up the upper back and shoulders with sustained isometric effort. Virasana with a reclined backbend targets the quads and hip flexors, while Baddha Konasana, Janu Sirsasana, and a full seated forward fold address the inner groin and hamstrings. Throughout, Dan weaves philosophy about presence, silence, the psoas as the "second brain," and the value of turning inward over chasing external goals. The pace is intentionally slow and contemplative, closing in Savasana with a guided breath retention and a seated meditation. Ideal for those carrying hip tightness, desk tension, low-back stiffness, or seeking a grounding, reflective practice. A block is recommended for seated work.

Another classic I revisited. Like a guided meditation but with deep deep stretches, I can’t think of any muscle tendon or ligament that went untouched in this 1hour plus class. Not your run-of-the-mill yin, where you hold each stretch 3min, then ding and onto the next hold. But rather a seamless journey that goes by too quickly.
