About This Class
Bryan Kest leads the "Brahma routine," a complete foundational sequence designed for yoga teacher trainees that doubles as an accessible yet rigorous practice for all levels. The class opens with nostril breathing and breath-deepening to settle the mind, then builds systematically through repeated sun-salutation-style flows (down dog, cobra, plank push-ups, standing forward folds) that accumulate cardio heat over time. Standing work includes Warrior/Crescent Lunge variations, Warrior III-style airplane balancing, extended-hand-to-big-toe pose, triangle, twisting triangle, wide-legged forward folds with shoulder interlace, and extended side angle with a runner's-lunge twist. Floor sequences address the back body with locust and bow pose, followed by supine core work (leg lifts, oblique twists), deep hip openers (reclined pigeon-style foot-on-knee, bound-angle/Baddha Konasana forward fold, and a seated cradle stretch), shoulder-opening (eagle-arm-style bind and neck stretches), and shoulderstand/legs-up preparation. The class closes with Ujjayi pranayama in seated Jnana Mudra and Mula Bandha, supine spinal twists, and a generous Savasana. Throughout, Bryan frames every pose as an act of self-care and moderation, repeatedly inviting students to find their own edge rather than compare or compete, making the class equally a meditation on mindfulness and a full-body physical workout.
