About This Class

In "Surfing the Wave," Bryan Kest guides students through a full-body flow built on the foundational principle that how you move matters more than how far you go. The class opens in child's pose with an extended focus on deep, free breathing as the anchor for presence and meditation. From there, it moves through a progressive warm-up sequence—downward facing dog, cobra, locust/surfer's pose, and bird-dog variations—before flowing into standing balance work including airplane, Bruce Lee karate-chop leg extensions, crescent lunge, and figure-four chair pose. Notable strength and play moments include elbow balance (the beginning of a handstand) and a squat-to-tiptoe sequence. The floor sequence covers a bound forward fold, camel pose, seated butterfly, table-top hip lifts, leg lifts with a twist, and boat pose with spinal twists. The class closes with supine spinal twists, a gratitude meditation, and a long Savasana. Throughout, Bryan consistently discourages comparison, competition, and overeffort, framing the practice as a gentle self-massage and an exercise in mindfulness, making it equally accessible to beginners and experienced practitioners willing to explore a non-ego-driven approach.

Sensational. This one resonates deeply, especially with the meditation of gratitude at the end!

Sending blessings to the spirit of your friend and all those who knew and loved him. What a beautiful offering to share in his memory. Equal parts challenging, strengthening, balancing, lengthening, and renewing physically, mentally, and spiritually. Complete with laughter, falling, and deep, fluid breathing. My heart was heavy today, and this practice went a long way in helping me find ease amidst the vicissitudes. With infinite gratitude to you from the quietest place in my mind, dear B.K., namaste.
