About This Class

The Archer practice is a breath-synchronized Power Yoga flow that uses the metaphor of the archer — drawing a bow with precision and purposeful tension — to guide students through a progressive sequence of backbends and balancing poses. The class opens in child's pose and moves through cat-cow spinal warm-ups before building into repeated sun-salutation-style vinyasa rounds that include chair pose, Warrior One with a straight-leg forward fold variation, and cobra. The heart of the practice introduces Sunbird to half bow (Ardha Dandasana) in tabletop, prone full bow variations, and the signature standing Dancer's Pose / Natarajasana-style archer balance, both facing forward and in a leaning "shooting" position. A floor-based cool-down features dynamic and static bridge (Setu Bandhasana), supine bound toe stretches, spinal twists, and Savasana. Throughout, Travis Eliot frames the bow-and-arrow dynamic as a mindfulness tool — using focused Drishti gaze, steady breath, and non-attachment to outcome — making this equally a moving meditation and a physically demanding backbend-forward flow. Best suited for practitioners looking to open the spine, chest, and hips, build heat, and develop mental concentration.
