About This Class
Pigeon Perfect is a dynamic yet mindful 60-minute flow class that takes pigeon pose as its organizing theme, building toward it through a carefully layered sequence. The class opens on the floor with Sukhasana, Sufi circles, and hands-on foot massage to awaken the feet and arches before progressing through Janu Sirsasana, Baddha Konasana, and forward folds. Standing work features low lunges, crescent moon, Ardha Hanumanasana (half splits), and lizard pose on both sides, with detailed cuing on hip alignment, psoas engagement, and drawing the chest forward. Prone work includes a signature "pose of the year" (stacked-hands forehead rest), Locust variations, and Cobra before transitioning into single pigeon on both sides with a quad-catching back-knee bind. The class closes with Ardha Matsyendrasana (half lord of the fishes), reverse tabletop, and a seated forward fold before Savasana. Throughout, instructor Dan Ward layers breath awareness (Ujjayi), embodied sensation tracking, and encouraging philosophical asides, creating a practice that is as internally focused as it is physically deep.
