About This Class

This long-format vigorous flow class with Rudy Mettia opens on the knees in Virasana, inviting students to settle the mind and find Ujjayi breath before progressing through multiple rounds of Surya Namaskar A and B with modified push-ups and cobra variations. The standing sequence layers Warrior One with a shoulder-opening interlaced-fingers backbend, Warrior Two, Parsvakonasana, Revolved Warrior/Revolved Triangle, and Half Moon, all visited at least twice so the poses can "surrender their treasure" on the second pass. Hip mobility is a central theme: the class moves through a detailed low-lunge/lizard progression with quad stretches, Ardha Hanamasana, a deep standing frog/Malasana-style squat, and binding side-angle variations. Twists appear on both sides from a grounded lunge and from Warrior positions. The floor finishing series includes locust/Shalabhasana, Bow/Dhanurasana, cobra, happy baby, straddle, an optional Halasana/Sarvangasana, supine twists, and Savasana. Throughout, Rudy uses the theme of "power versus force" and "plain things are the main things" to encourage students to discriminate, modify, and work with intelligent effort rather than ego. Cautions around shoulder hyperextension and low-back alignment in twisting and standing-splits transitions are explicitly noted.
