About This Class
This approachable 56-minute gentle yoga class with Dan Ward invites students to transition from the busyness of daily life into a spacious, mindful movement experience. Beginning supine, Dan introduces ujjayi-style nasal breathing as a feedback tool before moving through a progression of floor-based hip openers — butterfly, external and internal rotation, happy baby variations, and supine twists with stacked knees. A seated block-supported section builds in cross-legged sitting, hip raises, and eagle arms, followed by all-fours shoulder circles exploring elevation, depression, protraction, and retraction. Standing-kneeling low lunges with a side-body stretch and revolving variation target the hips, quads, and thoracic spine. The class closes with supine block-supported chest and hip work, a second round of happy baby, and an extended Savasana with a reflective meditation on embodiment. Throughout, Dan emphasizes breath awareness, self-exploration, gradual range-of-motion build, and enjoyment — explicitly noting that sharp joint pain is a signal to back off, and offering multiple prop and modification options for sensitive knees, wrists, feet, and hips.

Dan has a natural goodness and sweet sense of humor that complements this gentle practice so well. If you’re looking for a way to connect with your breath and inhabit every cell of your body, he and Melissa have it all figured out. ?

Thank you, Dan and Melissa, your gentle practice was a Perfect gift to myself, after last night “breaking” a 4-day water fast. Dan, I appreciate your recognitions of manifestations of chronic injuries and subtle sensations that might become aware to each of us. I am thankful for your life’s philosophies. Namaste
