About This Class

In "The Balancing Project," Desiree Crossman frames balance as a daily practice and a skill worth cultivating — whether you're having a great day or a wobbly one. The class opens with foundational weight-shifting drills at hip-width stance, engaging the core (transverse abdominis), glutes, and inner thighs to build the neuromuscular connections that underpin all standing balance. From there, the sequence progresses through single-leg knee lifts with leg extensions on each side, then moves into Warrior Three variations with hip-opening and hip-closing work to develop lateral stability. Ankle and toe articulation drills — rolling weight between heel and toes — further refine proprioception and foot strength. The class peaks with Half Moon Pose (with optional block support and bound variation) and Standing Splits on each side, before releasing into a forward fold and rolling up. Throughout, Desiree emphasizes recruiting stabilizing muscles rather than locking joints, and offers personal insight about navigating balance challenges with monocular vision. Blocks are suggested as an optional prop. This class suits anyone looking to sharpen balance, build lower-body stability, and improve awareness of weight distribution and postural asymmetries.
