About This Class

Bryan Kest leads this aptly named "Mr. & Mrs. Thighburn" flow with humor and warmth, weaving together a demanding sequence designed to distribute the workload evenly across the upper body, core, and lower body. After a grounding child's pose and down dog warm-up, the class moves through a spine-warming cobra-to-plank cycle, locust variations with interlaced hands, and bow pose to open the chest and back. The heart of the class is an intense standing sequence on each side: low lunge with elbow-to-floor hip opener, crescent lunge, extended triangle, skandasana-style deep-knee bend, shoulder-under-leg binding, and a wrapped arm clasp—all punctuated by hero pose and warrior transitions. A dedicated core segment keeps shoulders lifted off the floor through scissor-leg and reach variations. The floor cool-down includes a wide-legged forward fold, reclined knee-to-chest, supine twists, and a five-minute vipassana-style breath-awareness meditation on the patch of skin between upper lip and nostrils, flowing into Savasana. Throughout, Bryan consistently invites students to find a "sweet degree," exit early, and treat humility as a muscle—making the class as much a challenge to calmness and mindfulness as it is to physical strength and flexibility.

Roughly 50min class with extended meditation. Less flow and longer holds.

Thank you for something different this Friday! A great and strong class to head into the weekend!

I normally add a review as a reminder to myself for when I’m searching for a class. I practice with PY 3-4 times a week. I picked this class because of the reviews. About once a year, I come across a class I do not enjoy and this was it for me. This is mostly a strong, advanced arm strength heavy/plank class. The standing sequence is rushed. I was so blown out from the updogs and planks, I didn’t feel open for dhanurasana at all. For me, this class was overwhelming. I did not feel stretched, strengthened or balanced, open, lengthened. No biggie – just not for me.

I sure can appreciate the reference to Mom worrying about my breathing! Perhaps if she practiced yoga she would have had fewer worries,or at least she would have handled her concerns better.
