About This Class
This expansive Sunday morning class with Bryan Kest opens gently in child's pose and downward-facing dog, using conscious nasal breathing as the primary focusing tool before gradually layering in movement. Two distinct warm-up flows — each rehearsed slowly then refined into a continuous dance — progress through plank, cobra, lunges, and down dog, building cardiovascular heat and whole-body strength. The middle section moves into a rich standing and balancing sequence: warrior-style lunges, extended side angle with arm reaches, twisted variants, half-moon-style arm balances, and a sustained exploration of splits (Hanumanasana), named for the mythological figure Hanuman. A prone backbend series peaks with full bow pose (dhanurasana), followed by a final cobra, before the class descends into seated and supine work — bound angle, table-top hip openers, boat-pose core twists, a plow/shoulder-stand variation, supine leg stretches, and deep spinal twists — closing in a guided savasana with explicit invitation to meditate. Throughout, Bryan repeatedly encourages students to back off rather than overdo, to ignore the mirror, and to treat the practice as personal and healing rather than competitive.
