About This Class
This expansive class opens with an extended settling period focused on complete nose breathing and mind-quieting before moving into a progressive flow that builds warmth through multiple rounds of downward dog, cobra, and plank-based sequences. Bryan introduces crescent lunges, standing balance work (including tree-like one-legged poses and warrior-adjacent lunges), arm-balance explorations on one hand, deep hip openers like lizard/low lunge with elbows down, toe-balance squats, seated butterfly (baddha konasana), shoulder-behind-leg squats, and spinal twists. The peak section features dynamic one-legged balancing, knee-to-elbow arm balance flirting, and shoulder stretches in down dog. The cool-down includes a plow-inspired inversion, shoulderstand, supine core work, and spinal twists before a seated gratitude meditation and savasana. Throughout, Bryan repeatedly frames the practice as maintenance—gentle, personal, and non-competitive—and uses vivid philosophical monologues on gentleness, self-respect, aging, and gratitude to anchor the mindfulness layer. Props such as blocks are offered as options. No specific contraindications are named for the class overall, though lower back and knee modifications are consistently offered.
