About This Class
This hip-opening flow with Byron de Marsé starts on the floor with Supta Baddha Konasana, supine hamstring stretches, thread-the-needle, and Happy Baby to warm up the hips before standing work begins. The class then moves through a rich standing sequence including low lunges with quad stretches, runner's lunge, side bends, cactus arms, Warrior One and Three, Chair Pose, and Tree Pose — all framed through the lens of mobility as strength. Floor work features Sphinx, Baby Cobra, Salabhasana, and half-frog variations targeting the piriformis and hip flexors. The standing flow continues with Warrior Two, Triangle, bound variations, Half Moon (Ardha Chandrasana), and an optional Ardha Chandrasavasana (Falasana). The class closes with Pigeon Pose on both sides, Pada Konasana, Upward Facing Plank, Paschimottanasana, and a guided Savasana. Byron consistently emphasizes deep Ujjayi breathing, proprioception, and the distinction between flexibility (passive) and mobility (active strength), making this class equally useful for those recovering from stiffness as for those building functional hip range of motion.

I did a jog in the morning and this practice was perfect for me, starting with stretching the legs and hips. And then made me sweat. Super! Thank you!

Enjoyed the sequence, nice mid-evening flow when I don’t have much time. Good pace, all overstretch and strengthen.
