About This Class
In this short, accessible tutorial, Bryan Kest breaks down Chair Pose step by step, beginning from Downward Facing Dog and walking or jumping the feet forward to a hips-width stance. He invites students to explore their personal range of knee bend — anywhere from a modest 45-degree angle to a full 90-degree parallel squat — always keeping the heels grounded. From the bent-knee base, students lift the torso and arms toward the ceiling, engaging the back muscles fully while the legs provide a strong foundation. Bryan then cues a palm rotation (baby fingers turning toward each other) to open the shoulders, and encourages students to energetically lengthen the tailbone away from the fingertips to activate additional muscle chains. An optional gaze lift and pressing the arms back toward the ears completes the full expression of the pose before standing tall on an inhale. The class emphasizes individuality, breath freedom, and progressive full-body activation.
