About This Class
Bryan Kest leads this energetic yet philosophically rich flow centered on the peak pose Bird of Paradise (Svarga Dvijasana). The class opens in Child's Pose and Downward Dog, progressing through multiple rounds of Cobra, Locust, and Bow to warm the spine and upper body. Leg-to-elbow sequences and Plank-to-Chaturanga flows build arm and core strength, while wide-legged forward folds, standing side stretches, and Eagle-arm variations systematically open the hamstrings, shoulders, and hips in preparation for the peak. Bird of Paradise is explored on both sides with patient, step-by-step instruction emphasizing calm breath and abdominal engagement. Counter-poses include twists, Shoulderstand, Fish, and a supine forward fold. The class closes with a seated compassion meditation, inviting practitioners to direct loving intention outward, followed by an extended Savasana. Throughout, Bryan emphasises moderation, personal sensation, deep fluid breathing, and equanimity as the true practice.

Bless you, Bryan and Melissa, your practice was phenomenal, thank you (Thumbs UP!). I agree with Deborah, I felt humbled, yet I was grateful. As Jamie plans to repeat this class, I also will routinely seek the support of its instructions and physical/mental challenges. Whew! Bryan, thank you also for your insights in the present World affairs. In order for Mankind and our environment to survive, Man will have to recognize his responsibilities in his life’s choices and actions — we are co-creators in our own life processes and those of the world around us. Namaste.

Loved this class! It was nice to be fully prepared for Bird of Paradise and so exciting to get into the full pose even though my mind was doubtful lol! Thanks! Added to the favourites. ?

Loved it!

My body feels great even though my bird if paradise looked more like a disgruntled chicken who just tangled with the neighbor’s cat, and won. I really like the plow, shoulder stand and especially the meditation. Thank you.

I’m so happy to have found Bryan’s class again. Haven’t been around Bryan and his extraordinary teaching for probably at least 15 years…back in the day that he had those huge classes upstairs in a building across the street from the Santa Monica Library! He is the best teacher.
