All people are unique!
Some are more buoyant and some more introverted, some playful and some are serious, some are more optimistic, and some are more pessimistic, some are more confident and some are more unsure. Our unique natures are what make us special and attractive to others that we counterbalance.Yet regardless of one’s nature, one can develop qualities that they find uplifting and centering, as opposed to negative and depressing.
I believe there’s an old saying that says “happiness breeds happiness” and “fearfulness breeds fearfulness”. In other words if your thoughts are positive and uplifting you are strengthening those qualities in your mind and if your thoughts are fearful and negative you strengthen those qualities. Many people walk around throughout their days strengthening negative and fearful qualities, creating a more and more negative and fearful mindset as those are the qualities one is feeding and those qualities become stronger and more dominant.
As the universal law states “if you feed it, it becomes strong and if you stop feeding it, it starves and dies”. There’s an old saying coming from the Greek Oracle which says “know thy self”. This means see how you are and where your mind dwells so you can then determine if your thoughts are strengthening benevolent or malevolent qualities.
We were taught math, history and science but we were never taught that the largest factor in our well-being (health) is the place where our mind dwells. Most people have no idea that they are walking around throughout their days strengthening a malevolent mentality which adversely affects every aspect of their life.
Have you ever noticed what type of thoughts you’re having? Do you notice you’re walking around thinking confidently? Do you walk around seeing the best in yourself and those in your life? Do you notice your mind is dwelling in immense gratitude for all that you have? Or do you notice your thoughts are full of fear and worry, judgement and criticism or sadness and regret?
Wherever your mind dwells is what you are strengthening so the most important thing as the Greek Oracle stated is to “know thy self”. In the Yoga world this is called awareness or enlightenment. Once you are aware of where your mind dwells then you can decide whether it’s dwelling in a malevolent or benevolent place.
If you are aware that your mind is dwelling in a malevolent place then because of this awareness you now have a choice. The choice is: Do I want to dwell in this malevolent mentality or not? If you don’t want to dwell in this mentality, then you can let those malevolent thoughts go and put your thoughts in a benevolent place. What you’re now doing is your weakening the malevolent mentality because you are no longer feeding it mental energy and unconscious loyalty so those malevolent mental muscles start to atrophy it’s kind of like you’re killing the enemy. And as you steer your mind to a benevolent place you start to strengthen those benevolent qualities. Soon those benevolent qualities start to develop and become more and more of a dominant player in your mentality and you noticed that you’re walking around feeling more happy, content and peaceful with much less worry and negativity. It’s really no different than the muscles on your body if you use them they become strong and helpful and if you don’t use them they become weak and atrophy.
This is P.E. 201 as now we are understanding the largest factor in our physical well-being is our mentality as stress is the precursor for most disease and there’s nothing more opposite of this type of stress than a benevolent mentality. The key is awareness, this means you are noticing, you are awake and you are present. This awareness then allows you the choice: Do I want to remain where I’m at or do I wanna make a shift?
Now you become the captain of your own ship. Before there was no one steering the ship, the ship was fluttering in the wind and the tides as the mind rolled aimlessly from thought to thought. Now you are steering the ship in the direction of your choosing and that is truly how you get to where you want to go!
This is the emphasis of each and every Power Yoga class!
Would you like to strengthen of benevolent mentality? It’s a muscle that needs to be developed. This is the POWER within our poweryoga classes.
