About This Class
This Shivakali Vinyasa class with Serge Bandura is anchored in the Sanskrit principle of Sthiram — stability — explored through every layer of the practice: breath, bandhas, and body. The class opens on the floor with Happy Baby, cat-cow, and spinal twists before building methodically through tabletop core work, Sphinx, and Downward Dog. Serge dedicates significant time to breaking down Chaturanga Dandasana with modifications (knees-down option, shoulder alignment cues), making the challenging pose accessible to all levels. Standing sequences include Crescent Lunge, Standing Split, Warrior Two, Triangle, Reverse Warrior, Side Angle, Half Moon, and Kamakarasana, all linked by Uddiyana Bandha and Mula Bandha engagement. Core endurance is tested with forearm planks and chair-pose heel-raise intervals. The practice closes with Malasana, an optional Crow Pose exploration, Plow Pose or Purvottanasana variation, seated head-to-knee twists (Parivrttanasana), Baddha Konasana, Bridge Pose, supine eagle twists, Apanasana, and a full Savasana. Throughout, the instructor frames the practice around finding inner stillness amid life's turbulence, repeatedly returning to breath evenness and bandha awareness.
