About This Class

This class guides students through the Muscle & Tendon Changing Classic (Yi Jin Jing), a traditional internal-arts sequence distinct from softer qigong in that it deliberately combines stretching with active strengthening. The instructor begins with a gentle warm-up circling the head, shoulders, hips, and knees before moving into a series of named movements: Presenting the Pestle (positions 1–3), Plucking the Stars, Pulling the Nine Oxen's Tails, Eagle Shows Its Talons, Nine Ghosts Showing the Sabers, Three Body Tensions (wide-stance squats), Black Dragon Shows Its Claws, Tiger Catching Its Prey, Bowing in Salutation, and Shaking the Tail. The class finishes with a formal closing sequence that seals energy at the Dantian with breath work. Throughout, the instructor emphasises moving within a comfortable range, listening to the body, avoiding sharp joint pain, and attending to eye focus as a tool for directing intention and qi. The pace is even and deliberate rather than fast, and the full sequence is run twice — once with instruction and once as a continuous flow. The class suits anyone looking to improve flexibility, joint mobility, and functional strength through mindful, structured movement.
