About This Class

This vibrant chair yoga class with Angie Maguire is an approachable, full-body practice designed for anyone who benefits from the support of a chair — whether due to limited mobility, recovery needs, or a simple desire for a gentler form of movement. The session opens with a grounding breath meditation and gratitude practice, then moves through seated spinal warm-ups including cat-cow, lateral side bends, thoracic twists, and neck stretches targeting the vagus nerve and parasympathetic nervous system. Angie introduces finger and wrist mobility sequences (including rainbow finger waves and hand mudra shapes) to support grip strength, arthritis prevention, and joint health. A playful paper-plate cardio sequence adds coordination and light cardiovascular stimulation, followed by a modified downward-facing dog using the chair as support. Standing balance work — including tandem balancing, single-leg standing with hip rotation, and twisted standing balance — challenges focus and proprioception at every participant's own level. The class closes with seated pigeon pose variations, a self-hug chest opener, thyroid-stimulating chin tucks, and a guided gratitude visualization on a New Jersey beach. Throughout, Angie weaves in mindfulness cues, encouragement around self-compassion, and reminders that effort — not perfection — is the goal.
